There is a Special Election in
our community on March 11th!
What’s at Stake
In November, Minnesotans voted for a tied State House, with equal representation from Democrats and Republicans. In November 2024, the Democratic candidate won with 65% of the vote. But now, we have a special election on March 11th to fill a vacancy.
If Republicans win, it will mean more power for Donald Trump and MAGA policies like abortion restrictions and tax cuts for corporations & the wealthy here in Minnesota.
Meet the candidates:
Democrat
David Gottfried
Republican
Paul Wikstrom
ON THE ISSUES
Reducing costs for families
David Gottfried will fight to build an economy where all Minnesotans can get ahead, not just the wealthy and powerful. He’ll work to hold corporations accountable for price gouging to bring costs down for families.
David Gottfried is committed to ensuring small businesses and families are able to get ahead and stay ahead.
Republican Paul Wikstrom will join colleagues who opposed a bill to hold corporations accountable for price gouging the cost of essential goods and services, who voted against protecting Minnesotans from hidden, burdensome, and excessive junk fees, and who opposed a bill to prevent big pharmaceutical companies from price gouging the cost of the medications that Minnesotans rely on.
Ensuring access to women’s health care
David Gottfried believes women should be able to make their own healthcare decisions without interference from politicians.
Since 2022, fourteen states have enacted near-total or total abortion bans, including Minnesota’s neighbors in North and South Dakota.
Thankfully, Minnesota Democrats fought to protect abortion rights, are working to expand access to reproductive health care, and have blocked Minnesota Republicans’ attempts to ban abortion and access to fertility treatments.
David Gottfried will always protect Minnesotans’ access to birth control, abortion care, and the fertility treatments that are right for their families.
Paul Wikstrom would support Republicans’ extreme agenda on women’s rights.
Even though the majority of Minnesotans want to keep abortion safe and legal, Minnesota Republicans voted against a 2023 law protecting and expanding access to abortion care.
In fact, between 2005 and 2022, Minnesota Republicans tried and failed to ban abortion 32 times. And during the 2023-2024 Minnesota legislative session, Minnesota Republicans introduced one abortion ban and five abortion restriction bills that were blocked by Minnesota Democrats.
Investing in our local schools
David Gottfried will work to invest in quality public schools and deliver meaningful programs like universal school meals for Minnesota students and families.
He supports investing in strong public schools to provide more mental health support for students, reduce class sizes, and recruit and retain high-quality teachers.
Republican Paul Wikstrom would join his colleagues who want to slash funding for public schools, putting students, teachers, and families at risk.
Paul Wikstrom and Minnesota Republicans also want to take funding away from Minnesota’s public schools and send it to unaccountable private schools instead.
Minnesota Republicans’ plan to underfund public schools means schools might have to cut classroom programs, lay off teachers, and increase class sizes. And that’s the last thing that our kids and families need right now.
Improving public safety & reducing gun violence
David Gottfried is dedicated to keeping our communities and schools safe from gun violence by supporting common-sense measures that will keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people. He supports investing in public safety and local first responders to improve safety for everyone.
Republican Paul Wikstrom would support Republicans’ agenda against common-sense policies such as red flag laws, storing guns safely, and ensuring criminal background checks on all gun sales.
The choice for State Representative and control of the Minnesota House is Yours.
